![]() Most of the people she kills are in self-defence with the exception being all of Abby’s friends. You have to remember that Ellie doesn’t kill people with the same hatred that filled Joel and Abby. This moment is important because it’s the crossroads that leads Ellie to her salvation. She feels worthless which is touched on quite a few times in the story.Īt the end of the game when Ellie has Abby dead to rights, it’s the exact mirror moment of when Joel was killed. Her anger isn’t just about Joel being murdered, it’s about not being able to find closure in that aspect of her life. The problem is that Ellie and Joel’s relationship was strained by the revelation that Joel stole everything from her at the end of the first game. She thinks that killing Abby will solve this problem, and leaves Dina in an effort to do just that. Her story needs to be told so that these parallels come full circle in the final moments.Įllie isn’t able to live a normal life while Abby is alive. She’s laughing for the first time, cracking jokes and she’s finally hopeful. Abby at the end of the game is basically Joel at the end of The Last of Us. These children are also both struggling with a form sexual identity which strengthens these parallels. They both end up caring for these children who fill the void of the loss they experienced. They both find a child who eventually saves them from themselves. They both lose someone which changes them to a fault. Her journey mirrors Joel’s journey almost exactly. Not literally, but for the sake of the story she represents Joel. ![]() This scene is a redemption arc for Ellie to finally find salvation.Ībby’s portion of the game reveals that she is, in fact, Joel. It would have been absolute character-suicide for her to kill Abby. Those last moments of the game are made to mirror the scene when Joel was killed. I’m not sure how to even respond to this because it seems they missed pretty much all the nuanced storytelling in between. The one complaint I hear most is that Ellie should have killed Abby at the end of the game and that the whole journey felt pointless. I’ll give my thoughts below if you’re interested. Just an incredible piece of art that doesn’t have many equals in the medium.ĮDIT: There are people responding about the story being bad to which I couldn’t disagree any more. (People will apparently get Left Behind with the standard version of the game as well.) There are also reprints of The Last of Us: American Dreams prequel comic starring Ellie and Riley.TLOU2 is one of best story-driven experiences I’ve ever played and it’s ruined so many other games for me. Its description noted people get the base game and Left Behind prequel in a SteelBook case. The Firefly Edition will be a PlayStation Direct exclusive version. The leaked PlayStation Direct product page also showed the box art for the base game and a Firefly Edition. It notes that Naughty Dog rebuilt The Last of Us Part 1 for the PS5. It then shows snippets of gameplay and cutscenes. The trailer begins by showing the world while Joel talks about Ellie. A trailer, which is still available online at the time of writing, mentions a PC version is “also in development.” The storefront only featured a product page for the PS5 version of the game, which will be out on September 2, 2022. Its PlayStation Direct site revealed The Last of Us Part 1 for the PlayStation 5 and PC. Sony leaked one of its own major announcements.
